WASH

A strong need for safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene awareness has resulted in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) becoming an integral component in our community development program.

The WASH trainings and activities are being facilitated by our WASH partner, Canadian Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Techniques (CAWST).

It has been introduced and implemented in the majority of our program communities in Northern Rakhine, as well as in communities across the river from Yangon. The WASH component covers two aspects of delivery: software, which is education covering hygiene and sanitation, and hardware, which provides bio-sand filters, pumps, wells etc. The bio-sand filters, which provide clean drinking water to the communities, are manufactured locally and maintained through the use of a smartphone app created by CAWST.
